National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

The mission of NIAAA is to generate and disseminate fundamental knowledge about the effects of alcohol on health and well-being, and apply that knowledge to improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of alcohol-related problems, including alcohol use disorder, across the lifespan.


Medication Disposal Rockland County

Controlled substance medications can be dropped off anonymously, 24/7, at most local police departments and the Rockland County Sheriff's Office. Contact your local law enforcement for more information. 

Controlled and non-controlled substance medications can also be dropped off at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 35 Firemen's Memorial Dr., Pomona, during the ten scheduled weekend events during the year. CANDLE's mission is to prevent substance abuse and violence among youth. CANDLE's goal is to improve the health and climate of our schools and our communities by providing prevention education and resistance strategies to youth and their adult allies, and support programs for young people at risk.

Friends of Recovery - Rockland
Friends of Recovery - Rockland (FOR-R) is a 501C3 charitable organization composed of residents of Rockland and surrounding communities who are in long-term recovery from addiction, family members in recovery and family members in recovery from loss. We actively organize and mobilize the recovery community to speak effectively with one voice. FOR-R advances our vision by advocating for policies and practices that support a vision of recovery from addiction, ensuring that information about recovery is available to those seeking recovery, educating and inspiring the public about recovery and substance use disorder, and decreasing the stigma attached to addiction through our personal examples and stories.

Good Samaritan Hospital
The Inpatient Chemical Dependency program has two components: a detoxification program and a rehabilitation program. Our philosophy integrates 12-step spirituality with the science of addiction medicine. The program utilizes evidenced based medication while providing a safe, comfortable detox. A multi-disciplinary team of chemical dependency professionals includes physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors and nutritionists who provide support in individual, group and family settings.

Lexington Center for Recovery
Provides a comprehensive range of substance abuse treatment, counseling & support for individuals afflicted with chemical/alcohol addiction problems. Services include support groups, individual & family counseling, psychiatric evaluation & monitoring, and intensive day treatment programs. Separate programs available for adolescents, for adults, and for family members and friends.

Montefiore Nyack Hospital Addiction Services
The Recovery Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital offers help and hope to those struggling with addiction. The Recovery Center provides a full range of treatment options in a culturally sensitive and judgment-free environment to assist individuals on their road to recovery.

Rockland Council on Alcoholism & Other Drug Dependence, Inc.
The Mission of the Rockland Council on Alcoholism & Other Drug Dependence Inc. is to reduce the stigma of the disease of alcoholism and addiction; to help addicted persons, their families and concerned others to obtain appropriate services through referral services and advocacy; to increase public awareness about recovery; to provide support for the recovery community; to reduce the incidence of alcoholism and chemical dependency through prevention education and training.

Russell E. Blaisdell Addiction Treatment Center
Russell E. Blaisdell is a 52 bed all male facility which specializes in the treatment of addiction of men. Blaisdell treats nicotine dependence as a part of their program, along with a specialized program for individuals with a Traumatic Brain Injury. Services provided include routine medical care, psychiatric care as well as specialized and individualized treatment planning which addresses the various physical, psychological, emotional and social symptoms of addiction.

Samaritan Daytop Village - Rockland County Outreach
Samaritan Daytop’s mission is to provide treatment for individuals and families leading to a healthy, drug-free life through services that are individual, comprehensive and multidisciplinary without regard to race, religion, nationality or socio-economic status.

The Village of Haverstraw DAPC/Haverstraw Center
A multi-service prevention program serving North Rockland residents, with a certified prevention/intervention counseling component, evidence-based and promising prevention programs for youth and families, positive alternative activities for all ages (especially youth), and an extensive community mobilization component featuring environmental strategies and other OASAS-approved approaches.
